Premature Baby Beanie Hat (Very Tiny)
Here is one that is knitted in the round and some of our knitters are finding this an easier pattern to make.
Very small ventilator hat
Knit the flap first, leaving the stitches on a spare needle. Them knit the rib round tbe bottom. Cast off for the hole and knit backwards and forwards on these stitches as pattern. Finally keep knitting in the round adding in the flap. There are only 4 ends to stitch in!!
3.25 double pointed needles
Soft DK wool

FLAP
Cast on 15 stitches, knit 2 rows
Row 3 K7, yfwd, K2 tog, K6
Row 4 K2, P10, K2
Row 5 Knit
Repeat rows 4 & 5 5 times more
Row 16 K2, P10, K2
Row 17 Cast off 2 stitches at beginning of row, knit to end.
Row 18 Cast off 2 stitches at beginning of row, P5, P2tog, purl to end. Break off yarn, leaving stitches on a spare needle.
HAT
Cast on 36 stitches, divide between 3 needles and knit 4 rows K1, P1 rib.
Row 5 K3, yfwd, K2tog, to last stitch, K1
Row 6 Knit
Row 7 Knit 13, cast off 10 stitches, K 13, k13 to leave the gap for the flap Turn.
Working on the 26 stitches
Row 8 K2, P22, K2.
Row 9 Knit
Repeat rows 8, 9 until the gap is the same as the flap, counting from the buttonhole, and ending with a purl row.
Row 21 Knit, then knit across flap. Do not turn. Continue to make into a circle
Row 22 Knit.
Row 23 K4, K2tog
Row 24 K3, K2tog
Row 25 K2, K2tog
Row 26 K1, K2tog
Row 27 K2 tog
Break off yarn and thread through stitches.
Darn away ends. Sew on button.
These are very quick and easy to knit. Use any colour of soft double knitting wool apart from yellow. Thinner wool can be plyed together to make the required thickness. There are three different patterns for different sizes.

Using no.8 (4mm) needles and soft double knitting wool (any colour apart from yellow) loosely cast on 49sts.
1st row – (knit 2, purl 2) to last stitch, knit 1
2nd row – purl 1, (knit 2, purl 2) to end of row
Repeat 1st and 2nd rows twice more (6 rows worked in total)

Work 16 more rows in stocking stitch.
